Summary: | Argumentative operators are analyzed in terms of how they work, & it is demonstrated that context can determine the speaker's objectives & organize the choice of certain language elements, which involves the functionally differentiated use of the operators. The speaker is seen as a member of a social group who possesses a history, beliefs, images, etc, & is in a communicative situation promoting specific objectives, (all) underlying the speaker's discursive strategies. Four different discursive strategies are identified as composing four argumentation variations, translated into language through a differentiated use of language operators according to situation & speaker's objectives. Globally, the results shows that the finalities sought (inferred by the directions) are detectable in language through the analysis of specific linguistic markers, translating thus the discursive strategies of the subjects. 3 Tables, 1 Figure, 15 References.
