Summary: | A review of Lisa Block de Behar's, A Rhetoric of Silence and Other Selected Writings (Berlin: Mouton de Gruyter, 1995), consisting of translations of Block de Behar's writings in Spanish on linguistics & literary theory, assesses their theoretical contributions to these fields & the theory of cinema, religion, & philosophy, drawing on semiotics to focus on coincidences that create crossings - Block de Behar's primary theme & indicative of her epistemology in that essential knowledge is to be reached via language. Block de Behar's figure of "intranslation" is taken to exemplify a theoretical methodology of crossing two axles, eg, those between a text & its reading & between the latter & a reading of a previous text, to create a conjectural intersection that serves as a key to the reconstruction of what has remained tacit. 10 References.
