Summary: | [...] they demonstrated that traditional imaging evaluation by computed tomographic scans or endoscopic ultrasonography was not able to accurately predict the patient's prognosis. Because the observed trend is for PSCC to follow SCC in most respects, on average physicians can expect a 40 to 50 per cent response rate to initial therapy.16 Ultimately these findings suggest that for otherwise healthy patients with complete response to CRT by PET scan and SUV less than 4, surgical resection should still be considered, whereas patients with poor or incomplete response to CRT and SUV greater than 4 may not experience the benefit of an improved outcome with aggressive therapy. |
