Summary:A piece of the π! In the presence of PtCl2, NiII tetraalkynylporphyrin complex undergoes a six‐endo‐dig‐type cyclization to form two unusual structural isomers of NiII bisphenanthroporphyrins. Under the same conditions, NiII dialkynylpicenoporphyrin forms the extended NiII picenophenanthroporphyrin (see scheme). These otherwise inaccessible π‐fused exocyclic porphyrins were characterized by 2D NMR and show strongly redshifted electronic spectra.
