Flavonoid glycosides from Randonia africana Coss. (Resedaceae)

The present study is the first phytochemical report of plants belonging to the genus Randonia. We have isolated nine flavonol-glycosides from Randonia africana distributed into two monoglycosides, six diglycosides and one trioside. The monoglycoside, kaempferol-3- O-beta-glucopyranoside has been rep...

description The present study is the first phytochemical report of plants belonging to the genus Randonia. We have isolated nine flavonol-glycosides from Randonia africana distributed into two monoglycosides, six diglycosides and one trioside. The monoglycoside, kaempferol-3- O-beta-glucopyranoside has been reported only from one Resedaceae species, Ochradenus baccatus, while the other monoglycoside, isorhamnetin-3- O-betaglucopyranoside, has never been isolated from any Resedaceae species. ►There are no previous phytochemical reports on Randonia africana, traditionally used by the Saharian people against scorpions’ stings. It’s the first work on the chemotaxonomy of the genus Randonia. So, we feel that this work could be suitable for BSE.
