Description
Summary:Cadmium-induced DNA degradation in gill cells of the clam Corbicula japonica was assessed using the comet assay (single-cell gel electrophoresis). Accumulation of highly toxic cadmium in the gill cells of bivalve is accompanied by damage to the cell genome, which is revealed as DNA migration in the comet assay. The main mechanisms of Cd effects on the integrity of the DNA structure are discussed.
