Summary: | The ternary Pr-Au-Sn isothermal section at 600 super([ring operator]C has been investigated by X-ray diffraction, optical and scanning electron microscopy and electron probe microanalysis. The ten new ternary phases tau ) sub(1) PrAu sub(2-xSn) sub(x), tau sub(2 Pr) sub(6)1Au sub(25Sn) sub(1)4, tau sub(3 PrAu) sub(6)-xSn sub(x, tau ) sub(4) Pr sub(4Au) sub(1)1Sn sub(5, tau ) sub(5) PrAu sub(2Sn, tau ) sub(6) Pr sub(30Au) sub(4)0+xSn sub(30-x, tau ) sub(8) Pr sub(5AuSn) sub(3), tau sub(9 Pr) sub(3)Au sub(6Sn) sub(5), tau sub(10 Pr) sub(2)Au sub(3Sn) sub(4), tau sub(11 Pr) sub(2)Au sub(3Sn) sub(6) have been identified and the ternary equiatomic tau sub(7 PrAuSn compound confirmed. The structures of some of these phases have been investigated by powder diffraction methods, and the results have been reported. The tau ) sub(3) PrAu sub(6-xSn) sub(x) solid solution at x=1.77 and the tau sub(9 Pr) sub(3)Au sub(6Sn) sub(5) ternary compound have been examined by single crystal method, resulting to be cubic cI208-38.2, space group [inline image][inline image], and orthorhombic oP28, space group Pmmn, respectively. The tie-triangles of the ternary section have been determined and their trend has been discussed. The results obtained have been compared to the Ce-Au-Sn ternary section at 750 super([ring operator]C.) |
