Synthesis and antimicrobial activity of sulfazine-containing copper(II) coordination compounds with substituted salicylaldehydebenzoylhydrazones

A series of new mixed-ligand coordination complexes of copper with sulfazine and benzoylhydrazones of salicylaldehyde and 5-chloro-, 5-bromo-, 5-nitro-, 3,5-dichloro-, and 3,5-dibromosalicylaldehydes have been synthesized. The compounds display high antimicrobial activity. The compositions and proba...

Description
Summary:A series of new mixed-ligand coordination complexes of copper with sulfazine and benzoylhydrazones of salicylaldehyde and 5-chloro-, 5-bromo-, 5-nitro-, 3,5-dichloro-, and 3,5-dibromosalicylaldehydes have been synthesized. The compounds display high antimicrobial activity. The compositions and probable structures of the obtained complexes have been proposed on the basis of elemental analysis, magnetic measurements, IR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric measurements. The influence of the anion and the substituent in the salicylaldehydebenzoylhydrazone fragment on the structure and antimicrobial activity of coordination compounds toward nine Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms has been studied. Sulfazine-containing copper(II) chloride and bromide complexes obtained on the basis of 3,5-dibromosalicylaldehydebenzoylhydrazone showed the maximum antimicrobial activity.
