Description
Summary:Cobalt ferrite nanoparticles 20 nm in size were synthesised by sol-gel auto-combustion. The samples were irradiated with a Nd:YAG laser to investigate the effects of irradiation on the structural, cationic distribution and magnetic properties. The virgin and irradiated samples were characterised by XRD. The XRD studies at room temperature showed that defects were created in the lattice after irradiation which affected the structural, cationic distribution and magnetic properties. The lattice constant observed from XRD data for virgin and irradiated samples showed an increase after irradiation. Cation distribution was investigated by XRD. The observed reduction in the saturation magnetisation after irradiation was due to the partial formation of paramagnetic centres and the rearrangement of cations in the lattice.
