Description
Summary:Results of thermal tests of specimens of a niobium alloy with a protective coating in gas media with various contents of oxygen are described. The microhardness of the metal under the coating and the coating itself has been studied before and after the tests. The near-contact regions of the metal and the coating have been studied with the help of electron microscopy, x-ray spectral microprobe, and x-ray phase analyses. Data on the structure and the elemental and phase compositions of the near-contact regions are presented. The processes that occur in the formation and subsequent long-term annealing of the coating and that cause structural changes in it are described, which provide cohesion between the substrate and the coating and a high efficiency of protection.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
