Description
Summary:This article describes an approach to monitoring and controlling the slag regime in blast-furnace smelting. The approach is grounded in basic research that was carried out at the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy (of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) and involved physicochemical modeling of metallurgical melts and prediction of the process properties of metallurgical slags through the use of modern information technologies. A description is given of the functional capabilities of a computer system designed to monitor and control the slag regime in order to make pig iron with desirable sulfur and silicon contents while conserving raw materials - coke, iron-ore-bearing materials, and the required additions.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
