Summary: | This article provides reflections on the experience and knowledge built by the Black Movement in Brazil, through a focus on the struggle for education in racial-ethnic diversity and affirmative action. The black movement is understood here as a political subject with a historical trajectory, belonging to the current context of social movement organization and participant in transnational articulations together with other social movements and NGOs that seek to build a democratic society. Education is understood as part of a process of human development, adopting here Paulo Freire's perspective according to which schools, and educational processes developed within other social institutions, are considered as formative (and sometimes, deforming) experiences that constitute subjects.
