Summary:Several new Poly(ether-amide-imide)s were prepared by direct polycondensation reactions of 1,4-bis-[4-(trimellitimido)phenoxy]butane with various aromatic diamine. Two direct polycondensation techniques were used: direct polycondensation in a medium consisting of N -methyl-2-pyrrolidone/triphenyl phosphite/calcium chloride/pyridine and direct polycondensation in a tosyl chloride/pyridine/ N , N -dimethylformamide system. All the monomers and polymers were fully characterized by means of FTIR, 1 H-NMR spectroscopy and elemental analyses and properties of the polymers including solution viscosity, thermal behavior and solubility were studied.
