Summary: | The results of studying processes happening during the mixing of reactive carboxylated butadiene-nitrile rubbers and diane epoxy oligomer are summarized. The mechanism of mutual diffusion, rheokinetics, and chemical reactions in the rubber-epoxy systems are considered. Kinetic parameters and the activation energy of chemical and diffusion processes are estimated. The process of mixing of epoxy oligomer and rubber can be divided into four stages. The first stage involves mutual diffusion in the absence of any chemical interaction. The second stage is characterized by the preferential interaction between carboxyl and epoxy groups. The third stage includes the parallel interaction of carboxyl, epoxy, and secondary hydroxyl groups; as a result, a branched adduct is formed. At the fourth and final stage, gel formation occurs, thus changing mechanical and adhesion characteristics of composites. |
