The reported effect of this KCNJ11 polymorphism on insulin release by beta cells could explain this association. ► A KCNJ11 SNP was associated with diabetes in tacrolimus treated transplanted patients. ► KCNJ11 sequencing showed that this SNP was directly responsible for the association. ► The effect of KCNJ11 on beta cells insulin release could explain this association.
