Summary: | This paper aims to analyze the underpinnings of Marx theory on the materialist theory of discourse proposed by Pecheux, when he inaugurates a new field of study in Linguistics, his Discourse Analysis -- by proposing an interface analysis of the theoretical and conceptual assumptions put forth by Louis Althusser's and the theoretical notions put forth by Pecheux. Thus, we will discuss some elements of this theoretical episteme which has been inaugurated in the Linguistics realm, and by evaluating how Pecheux (re)signified and (re)read Althusser's claims about historical materialism. To accomplish this purpose, we will discuss a specific reference on language, semantics and ideology to map Aithusser's notions Pecheux (re)visits and (re-)signifies, processes the results of which account for the conceptual displacements that integrated the theoretical framework of Discourse Analysis. Our mapping reveals the scholar's concern with constructing a theory that demonstrates both the locus where materiality of political, economic, and ideological processes are intertwined in the class struggle fabric, and the locus where the effects of those processes are instantiated.
