Summary: | In an interview, Brian McMahon, manager of Thornburg Investment Income Builder fund, talked about global telecoms. They believe that if they own securities capable of growing the dividend, they will also get long-term capital appreciation. AT&T is the only telecom company that they own in the US, but they are also participating in Verizon Communications via Vodafone. They like telecom largely for the fixed-cost nature of business. The yields in energy companies tend to be somewhere between 4.5% and 6%. They have significant positions in Total, Royal Dutch Shell and ENI. |
