Description
Summary:Collection development, whether you're talking about books or media, is a process. New releases are one of the givens of any collection development position. You won't have to search for these titles, they're helpfully placed right in front of you in catalogs. Collection development can become overwhelming when you feel pressure to make the right decisions all the time. Yet mistakes happen - you won't always be able to predict patrons' tastes. Popular musicians will release an album that is universally despised. Artists you think no one in your area cares about will get a boost thanks to NPR or a biopic or a collaboration with the hottest pop singer. You'll deal with new artists, in areas you're not familiar with, and will have no idea if you should buy the disc, and, if so, how many to get.
