Summary: | Large corporate energy buyers such as Procter and Gamble, DuPont, Hilton, and Microsoft are looking for cleaner energy that meets their sustainability goals and lowers their costs. They are increasingly moving beyond the green power products of the last decade and considering new structures to access utility-scale renewable energy projects. Some of these approaches, such as power purchase agreements with or without physical delivery, exclude the utility. However, there is growing interest among large corporate buyers in pioneering solutions with the local electric service provider. As a result , innovations are emerging among corporate buyers and utilities. The corporate buying trend is price-sensitive to a degree, but they also are anxious to proactively manage decarbonization and avoid price shocks, reputation issues, and surprises. Customized renewable energy products present a real opportunity for utilities to meet the evolving needs of their customers. It also is an opportunity to take another step toward a more personalized relationship with customers. |
