Summary: | This article is the last part of a two-part series. The first part, which was published in the March/April 2016 issue of this publication, discussed the role of public housing authorities (PHA) in combating homelessness and provided a series of case studies from across the nation. This part of the series discusses some caveats regarding the current Housing First approach, talks about existing tools, then proposes new strategies for ending homelessness. Housing First is based on what PHA)already know: that permanent housing, and especially permanent supportive housing, provides the stabile platform that individuals and families need in order to thrive and to end the cycle of homelessness. In order to continue to build on the Housing First platform, there are cost effective ways in which to improve existing and emerging tools and look to the future for new trends. PHAs of all sizes have been collaborating to produce alignment and results for years. |
