Summary:In a previous study, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago discussed the evolution of fair lending regulations, reviewing the economic literature that served as a basis for this regulation, and analyzed recent mortgage lending trends by depository institutions in response to enforcement of the regulation. The authors summarize the results and findings of the study and build upon them by examining more detailed lending patterns for metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) in the Seventh Federal Reserve District. Various charts are included in the report.
