description The author's session began in June with anticipation of Britain's vote on its place in the European Union; its surprise exit was the cause of much volatility, and markets posted their worst day in 10 months. When the session ended Jul 29, 2016, it was hot on Wall Street: index records were broken and second quarter earnings exceeded pallid expectations. The Labor Department reported that productivity fell the first quarter, but at a slower rate than originally anticipated, dropping 0.6%, after a 1.7% decline in the fourth quarter of last year. The Commerce Department reported that consumer prices were driven higher in May by shelter and energy costs, up 0.2 percent, from a 1.4% increase in April. As markets turned into July, the S&P 500 and the Dow industrials began to hit record highs. Dorman Products exceeded expectations for second quarter profit, but missed on revenue, and shares rose 8.49 points, or 15.38%.
