Summary: | Regional Educational Media Center (REMC) 21 covers a 7-county area in the center of the upper peninsula of Michigan. The REMCs' job is to facilitate purchases and act as intermediaries for the school districts they represent, either because projects cross boundary lines, equipment needs to be shared, or costs run too high for any one school. In the case of 2-way radio, radios are used across district boundaries and various districts' needs must be coordinated. When the district's radio system needed to be updated, evaluations of different types of systems were undertaken, including a cost analysis of each. The districts decided to operate on an 800 MHz specialized mobile radio (SMR) system. The mobile radios operate on Range Communications' SMR system, which covers the entire upper peninsula. |
