Description
Summary:A number of suppliers are offering wireless data services based primarily on cellular telephone or personal paging technology. The total number of wireless subscribers is nearing one million, and some industry sources predict this will grow to more than 3 million by the end of 1996. However, there are many problems which must be solved if this projection is to be realized. Currently, most end-to-end wireless solutions are proprietary due to the lack of accepted standards. For this reason, a system integrator not affiliated with any specific product line would be in a better position to evaluate all the potential solutions and recommend the most productive and cost-effective overall strategy. As standards and protocols become accepted, interconnection between vendor heterogeneous environments will become easier. This places even greater emphasis on the need for an unbiased system integrator.
