Description
Summary:The arrival of the IBM PC on August 12, 1981, forever changed the way that business goes about its business. Of all the benefits wrought by the personal computer (PC), worker productivity has been the most elusive and difficult to measure. The challenge of the next decade is making PCs work better for entire organizations. The networked PC - and the enterprisewide network - is where the productivity promise of the PC will be fulfilled. Still more challenges face the industry. Almost 70% of white-collar workers use PCs today, but blue-collar industries remain virtually without its benefits. Using computers to change society is another challenge that has yet to be met. As the corporation moves to the enterprise computing model, the challenges of the next decade are enormous, as is its potential.
