Summary: | In November 2017, Honduras will hold presidential elections which, for the first time in the nation's history, will feature an incumbent president as a candidate. Hernández' opponents in the presidential race include television host Salvador Nasralla, representing the AntiCorruption Party (PAC), and Luis Zelaya of the Liberal Party (LP), which has historically been the National Party's main competitor in presidential races. Former president Manuel Zelaya (no relation to current candidate Luis), who was elected in 2006 as the LP presidential candidate, was deposed by a military coup after attempting to call a non-binding referendum on the subject in 2009. |
