Description
Summary:In an era where a news story can go round the world in seconds, knowing how to handle the media is an essential skill for all senior executives. If you are a senior person and they can get hold of you, they will expect you to make a statement about the issue at hand. Reporters won't care whether you're the FD, the HR director or the chief executive. If you speak to the media, you are that company and can, therefore, be asked about anything. The FD's job has already expanded from senior number-cruncher to senior strategist -- and now senior spokesperson can be included as well. For example, there has been a trend for some organizations with credit-crunch problems to use the FD as their main media contact when they need to convey their view of a tricky issue that's considered too damaging for the chief executive to be seen discussing.
