description | In the face of a significant increase in the use of online testing in personnel selection, several authors have raised questions regarding the effectiveness, validity and fairness of this type of practice. Based on academic and professional literature, this article examines the advantages of online testing and the stakes associated with it and provides recommendations. Thirteen stakes are identified, namely: the presence of an administrator at the time of testing; candidates' familiarity with and access to computers; technical problems related to computer and Internet use; cheating; repetitive administration of tests; test security; standardization of administration conditions; psychometric characteristics under different administrative conditions (paper and pencil vs. online); the flexibility of online testing platforms; the interpretation of results and feedback; candidates' perception of their online testing experience; data protection, and; the choice of an online testing system.
