Summary: | For a long time, the attention of many scientists focused on the search for natural bioactive compounds. Recently, varying problems like BSE contamination have led to a renewal of interest in exploring the vegetable kingdom. So, a rational and thorough search of new natural active compounds has become a priority. The search for new natural active compounds by combining new and old strategies is described. It has not been done solely through ethno-pharmacological studies but by exploring in the best rational way, the experimental information obtained from the above mentioned ethno-pharmacological studies. Additional information has been taken from scientific literature, the Internet, and cutting edge bio-informatic technologies like QSAR, Molecular Modeling, Database Exploitation and mathematical analyses. The new technologies have been applied to the selection of new plants with antityrosinase properties which will comprise the bioactive elements of such personal care products as shampoos and treatment cosmetics. |
