Summary: | Since April 1992, when it hired Charles Johanson, the former director of capital markets and derivatives origination in North America for County NatWest, Societe Generale has added 4 derivatives professionals to focus on marketing options products. The marketing focus of the options unit has broadened into more exotic options products. With the added personnel, Colin Negrych, head of the interest rate options group in New York, has expanded his duties to include over-the-counter (OTC) government options sales and fixed-income syndicate. The US branch in New York is looking to build up its distribution capability by leveraging its expertise in options and knowledge of sophisticated options investors to lure issuers into selling debt with embedded options. SocGen's worldwide prowess in the options markets was highlighted in a survey by Risk magazine of 145 leading banks and broker-dealers to determine the ranking of options dealers in the interdealer market. Out of the 12 major currency groups, SocGen was ranked first in 7 categories. |
