Description
Summary:In one of the toughest years globally, Bank of America managed to report its best figures out of Asia in 50 years. In 2002 its return on equity was 30%. For someone who admits that he stumbled into banking, Bank of America, Asia president Colm McCarthy should be happy with his achievements. in 1979 McCarthy started at Bank of America. After 5 years in Dublin he was asked to join the bank's specialized industries group in London for an 18-month assignment. He ended up running the business. In 1991, just as Asia was taking off, McCarthy was sent to Singapore. He had just about figured out what was what when Asia's economies went into tailspin in 1997. Valuable lessons were learned, though.
