Summary: | Since its launch in April 1999, the JoinIT Web service has attracted 6,500 registered users, all keen to tap into the knowledge on materials and joining that resides with the World Centre for Materials Joining Technology (TWI). JoinIT targets engineers and tradespeople in small- and medium-sized enterprises by providing direct answers to technical questions. TWI reasoned that if the content and processes of an Internet-based service were developed to replicate the behavior of TWI's consultants, then the company could transcend the limitations of face-to-face interactions and reach an audience of 200,000 or 2 million people. |
