Summary:Richard Kelly died in 1977. In 1979, the IESNA posthumously awarded him the Gold Medal. Inspired by his vision, the New York Section of the IESNA established the Richard Kelly Memorial Scholarship. Its purpose was "to preserve and carry forth Mr. Kelly's ideals, enthusiasm and reverence for light." The Richard Kelly Grant, as it is known today, has been awarded to dozens of young people who have themselves gone on to make a contribution to our profession.
