Summary: | A study examined the effects of rater and ratee race on ratings of managers' performance using a large data set consisting of peer, subordinate, and supervisor ratings. The results indicated that Black, Peer, Subordinate, and Supervisor raters assigned more favorable ratings to managers of their own race. White Supervisor raters showed the same effect, but White Peers did not and the results for White Subordinates were equivocal. The results raise the issue of rating fairness. |
