Summary:Loren Dunton is officially recognized as the father of financial planning as an organized professional discipline and movement. Dunton's December 1969 meeting in Chicago with a small group of salesmen and advisors was long and involved. Dunton called that gathering the "Preliminary National Committee and Financial College Organization" and the event created new organizations and a new profession, all founded by Dunton. Ben Baldwin of Arlington Heights, IL was the first recipient of the Dunton Award. Ben was the first chair of the Society for Financial Services Professionals Financial Counseling section, and is considered by many as the nation's leading expert on Variable Universal Life. Donald Haas, of Southfield, MI, was the second recipient of the Award, John B Keeble, III, JD, of Atlanta received the award for 2002, and Alexandra Armstrong was the 2003 recipient
