Summary: | The health of the millwork market is determined by two factors: geography and market segment. In California, it is a tale of two millwork markets: one public and one private. Those that are doing government work, public schools, and hospitals remain very busy. In the private office markets, times are tough after the boom of the late 1990s. Most WIC members are involved with public work, and there is a lot of school work available. However, many shops are not busy so pricing is competitive. In addition, all hospitals in California must be upgraded to new seismic earthquake standards within the next 10 years. About $25 billion in construction, just in hospitals, is expected over that time period. There are also a lot of smaller jobs, retrofitting and remodeling, and the future is good in that respect. Companies in California are facing costs that are rising faster than outside the state. |
