Summary: | Michael Vetter of Leitz Tooling Systems, Yves Lemay of Gladu Inc, and Van Niser of Onsrud Cutter were asked for their views and insights into the tooling needs of nested-based manufacturing. Niser says that in nested-based manufacturing, parts of various shapes are machined from sheet stock in a method designed to produce maximum yield. In these environments, the parts are typically held by flow-through vacuum, and tooling is critical, particularly as it relates to small parts. Panel processors are looking for cutting tools with the smallest cutting circles in order to optimize material use and limit waste, says Lemay. Vetter says that all equipment operators need to be well versed on their tooling options in order to get maximum efficiency out of their machine and manufacturing process. |
