Summary: | As the physician executive role gains increasing prominence in the executive suite, senior-level administrators must learn to select the most effective chief medical officer and to successfully integrate them into their organization's leadership. A recent survey showed that CMOs are predominantly male, are almost always board certified in at least one medical specialty, and have had almost 20 years' clinical experience before they assume the CMO role. The CMOs who participated in the study report that their most important skills include: 1. inspiring confidence and trust, 2. influencing and persuading others, and 3. improving quality in patient care. |
