Summary: | In an interview, Dave Woods, controls product development manager at Rimrock Corp., discusses its decision to go with an Ethernet-based control system. Woods said that its purchasing department first brought it to everyone's attention by mentioning that a key supplier was going to stop making a board that Rimrock was so dependent on. He was hired to get the project going. Woods said that the system really fit its cost constraints, and it gave them the Ethernet connectivity they were looking for. Woods said that the switchover from and embedded controller to a PLC, however, met with some resistance. Some wanted to keep it closed - not wanting customers to know they could buy equipment form their local suppliers. |
