Summary: | The development of Coater-Ready acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) with robust coating characteristics will eliminate the majority of routine quality issues currently associated with the coating of emulsion adhesives. These emulsions have been coated on commercial reverse roll coating machines and performed flawlessly with no coating defects and no appreciable foam generation. The higher surface tension of the emulsion is opposite from what one would expect based on its superior coating behavior. This novel technology has been used to produce general-purpose, tackified, and all-temperature PSA grades for the paper label market. The particle stabilization technology has broad applicability within the realm of acrylic emulsion polymers, and work is currently under way to exploit new opportunities. |
