Summary: | In an interview, Katherine Tsang, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank China, talked about foreign banks in China. She said that Standard Chartered set up its first branch in Shanghai in 1858. It now has 10 branches, three sub-branches, and four representative offices in the country. Tsang have been with Standard Chartered for 13 years, operating in a number of capacities in their regional and global operations. Perhaps their positive outlook has to do with the fact that Standard Chartered has been the longest operating bank -- non-stop through many political regimes -- in China for nearly 150 years. The bank is engaged in constant dialogues with regulators, and they think it is best to work with them to arrive at something positive for the entire industry. Standard Chartered has been positioning itself because of its understanding of the market. |
