Summary: | The web market might finally be rebounding, with large-format presses taking the lead. Many well-known, highly regarded printers are installing or planning to install this type of equipment, generally designated as formats larger than 16 pages. Meanwhile, manufacturers have been unveiling new models with highly automated features that provide heightened efficiencies. Large-format webs promise cutbacks in waste, more output per cylinder revolution, and more efficiency. Manufacturers point to the numbers: it takes two 16-page webs to equal the output of a single 32-page press that requires just half the number of makereadies and plate changes, yet offers other benefits. Late last September, Goss International announced the continuing success of its commercial and insert press lines in the Americas. Noting that the Goss C700 series has been very successful for printing advertising inserts, Goss' Robert Hallstrom cites more than 100 folder deliveries of the press installed in North America alone, most recently at Quebecor World's Port Coquitlam facility near Vancouver, BC. |
