Summary: | As reported in a study distributed exclusively by the Graphic Arts Marketing Information Service in 2001, polyester printing plates are suitable for a wide range of jobs, in quantities up to about 25,000 impressions, depending on the condition of the press and the quality requirements for a specific job. The study's author, William C Lamparter of PrintCom Consulting, found that these plates can be used for print jobs with halftones, screen tints, and heavy coverage. The two leading manufacturers, Mitsubishi Imaging and Agfa, are already seeing growth. Another manufacturer serving the polyester plate market, AB Dick Co, markets its MegaPro line, which includes plates, available in 5-mil and 8-mil thicknesses, rated at up to 25,000 impressions. According to the company, the plates provide tight registration, economical performance, and high quality; a light-safe cassette, engineered for even, consistent feeding, provides fast, convenient exchange of material widths. |
