Summary: | Management development programs are often the first to fall under budget cuts. Although necessary to the organization, they have failed to deliver expected results because of: ambiguous goals; incomplete program development and design; inattention to models of behavioral change; and emphasis on the appropriate unit of analysis. Management development must involve the development of individual and group skills for effective problem-solving. Team building and action research must center around recurring organizational problems and includes 3 steps: needs assessment, program development, and evaluation. Only when these 3 steps are fully integrated will the major benefits of this process be realized. (kbc) |
