Description
Summary:The first cases of 2009 H1N1 pandemic influenza were reported by CDC on Apr 21, 2009. Twenty-one days later, on May 12, the Hawaii Department of Health (HDOH) confirmed two pandemic H1N1 cases from the same school in Oahu. HDOH initiated an investigation to determine the extent of transmission at the school and among household contracts, and to help establish appropriate control strategies. Park et al summarize the results of the investigation, which detected an outbreak of pandemic H1N1 cases at the school over the ensuing 3 weeks. A CDC editorial note is presented.
