Summary: | Coloma et al summarize the result of the study initiated by the National Health Foundation of the Brazilian Ministry of Health on the suicide trends and characteristics in the Kaiowa and Nandeva communities of the Guarani population. During 1975-2000, the infant mortality rate decreased, and overall life expectancy increased in Mato Grosso do Sul; however, suicide increased as a proportion of overall mortality among these two Guarani communities. A CDC editorial note is also presented. |
