Summary: | Human resource information centers can effectively respond to ad hoc information requests (AHIR) with a knowledge-assisted programming system (KAPS). Such a system involves combining an expert system with a report generator. With such a system, the user can generate the code for a report while exploring the knowledge base. The validity of the data request can be checked automatically against the history of the data and the data dictionary. Finally, once the system is established, the changes to the data and the data dictionary can be automatic. A KAPs can efficiently and effectively teach the novice user, allowing even a novice to be productive while learning. It is equally beneficial to the sophisticated user because the knowledge, procedures, and concepts for many research issues are so complex that understanding the logic of the reporting programs and the structure of the database is essential. Almost any concept basic to human resource information can be built into a KAP. |
