Summary:Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that can be caused by viruses as well as substances such as alcohol, chemicals, medications and herbs. Congenital defects, bacterial or parasitic infections, metabolic disorders, autoimmune processes and neoplasm may also result in hepatitis. A clinical presentation of hepatitis is discussed for pharmacists, and viral and nonviral causes explored. General management, treatment, control and prevention of hepatitis are examined.
