Summary: | For human resource (HR) practitioners, the key international issue is one of complexity and flexibility. Their major concern is ensuring that a carefully planned HR straegy, derived from the corporate business strategy, is really effective abroad. The HR practitioner working in Asia must deal with complex cultural underpinnings, difficult climatic situations, and different levels of understanding based on translations from a core language to another person's language. One of the secrets is to ensure that the HR manager working in Asia actually travels to and understands Asia. Far too often, decisions are made at headquarters that do not translate to the local situation. The key focus must be local need, local conditions, and local business plans. |
