Description
Summary:In all probability, 1999 will be a "Dream Society," as the transition is made from information to imagination. The information society is still here, of course, but it is on the way out for 2 reasons. First, as people become more and more affluent, they no longer demand stuff that will satisfy their material needs. Second, the information society is gradually automating many of its jobs out of existence. Already there have been glimpses of future demarcation lines in business. For example, society is moving toward the marketing of attitudes. To an increasing degree, people are prepared to change brands if a product does not reflect their convictions. As well, inequalities will become even more evident as a result of increased travel activity and the ubiquity of television, which is rapidly becoming a global medium. The globe will be perceived as even smaller than it is today.
